The original Pilot Kakuno fountain pens were designed to make writing fun and are the perfect pen for beginners and enthusiasts alike. The name of the collection, Kakuno, means "to write" in Japanese, reflecting the collection's playful but functional intentions. The playful (and iconic) smiley face on the nib encourages proper nib orientation, and the non-rolling barrel design and comfortable grip section make the Kakuno an easy fountain pen to use.

Inspired by the concept of "Madoromi," meaning "peaceful and tranquil moments or a gentle, comfortable slumber," this series exudes a refined and calming aesthetic. The colorful transparent barrel elegantly reveals the ink inside, complemented by soothing pastel hues that create a serene and inviting writing experience.
